"Tree Hugger" Education for the Future

Kathy Dittrich, a writer for the University of Wisconsin's news paper, explains the importance of educating children about the environment. In elementary school Dittrich recalls only learning the basics about helping the environment: reduce, reuse and recycle. Of course, that is really the only thing we learn about the environment in grade school, but there is so much more kids should be aware of.

Global warming has become a hot topic recently, no pun intended, which has increased the importance learning how humans and the environment coexist and how to equally give back to the Earth that gives humans so much to live.

Also, with a generation surrounded by science and technology, many children and young adults don't know what cost the environment to make an iPod or a cell phone. In the 21st century children should be taught about human affects on the Earth and vice versa so future generations can become more aware of environmental problems and solve them without haste.
